Welcome to Worship Ministries

At First Rowlett, the Worship Ministries staff and volunteers work tirelessly to provide our members and guests with a meaningful, Spirit-filled worship experience on Sunday mornings. Our goal is to compliment and strengthen the minister’s message through song.

In our traditional service, we feature our 50-member Sanctuary Choir, 5 octave English handbell ensemble, brass ensemble, wonderful youth choir, and our amazing children’s choirs. We all love to sing and play to God’s glory.

In our contemporary service, we are led by some of the area’s finest musicians. Our praise team leads us in a variety of musical styles and are always bringing us the latest quality praise music. These talented musicians come from a variety of musical backgrounds and their synergy makes for a powerful and spirit-led hour of worship.

If you are looking for a place to fit in at First Rowlett, we are happy to provide you and your family many opportunities to use your talents for glorifying God. I hope you will feel free to contact me about how you can be involved in the worship life of our church.

Blessings,

Traditional Worship Staff

  • Sanctuary Choir

The 50-member Sanctuary Choir, under the direction of Don Shelley and accompanied by Sandy Shelley, helps lead worship in the 9:30 am traditional services. This non-auditioned group of musicians are faithful in their worship attendance and come together on Wednesday evenings to rehearse, laugh a lot, and lift one another up as a ministry. You do not have to read music to participate in this ensemble. Most members sing both services on Sunday, but it is not a requirement. We leave the loft after singing to attend worship or Life Groups.

  • Handbells

This 5 octave English handbell ensemble has been active for over 30 years at First Rowlett.  Directed by Don Shelley, this talented group plays in worship 6 times per year and is a beautiful addition to our traditional services.  They play a variety of styles, all at the grade 2-4 level. We perform with Malmark handbells and in addition have 3 octaves of Malmark Tone Chimes. We often need substitutes for rehearsals, so if you have experience ringing or are an excellent sight reader, we would love to know more about you.

  • Brass and Orchestra

Throughout the year, we add brass and orchestra to our worship.  If you are an experienced player grade 9 and above, we would love to have you join us.  We often add top professional players to join us, making the experience powerful for everyone. Contact Don Shelley for more information.

  • Youth Choir

For our youth grades 7-12, our choir helps provide a special worship experience at both the traditional and contemporary services. Under the direction of Nancy Farrell, this energetic group sings several times throughout the school year and concludes with a week-long tour across the United States where they bring the light and love of Jesus Christ to assisted living and memory care facilities.

  • Cross & Fire Choir

Under the direction of Aubrey Presley, our children’s choirs have grown to be a favorite ensemble in all our worship services. The choir is open to all children 4yrs – 6th grade. They sing throughout the school year and bring Christmas joy to all with their annual Christmas musical.

  • Contemporary Praise Team

Our contemporary praise team leads us with the best of contemporary music and worship.  This unique ensemble features both professional and non-professional players. Together they find unique ways to bring the gospel to life through song. This is an auditioned ensemble. Contact Don Shelley for more information.

  • Youth Praise Team

All youth grades 7-12 are encouraged to be involved with this outstanding young group of musicians. They are the primary worship leaders for our Wednesday evening worship in The Lighthouse. They also occasionally help lead worship in both traditional and contemporary worship on Sunday mornings.
