Rev. Dretha Burris

Associate Pastor

Dretha Burris was appointed to serve at First Rowlett UMC as an Associate Pastor in 2008. Prior to ministry, she spent 31 years in public education in a variety of positions - secretary, teacher, counselor, assistant principal, and principal. Dretha is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has specialized in working with adolescents/children, families, and geriatrics. 

At First Rowlett, Dretha supervises Children's Ministry, Youth Ministry, and Adult Discipleship. She coordinates pastoral care, provides pastoral counseling, oversees the missions programs, 

and participates in worship planning and leading worship. She serves as the liaison to the

United Methodist Women, the church library, and the Soul Cafe.


Dretha serves on the Commission of Archives and History for the North Texas Conference and the Commission on Unity and Interreligious Concerns for the North Texas Conference. Dretha is one of the members of the North Texas Conference Congregational, Assessment, Response and Transformations teams (CART) for Crisis and also participates in the CART Team for Conflict. For several years, Dreatha has served as part of the organizational team for the North Texas yearly Annual Conference.


In addition to her work at First Rowlett UMC, Dretha believes in community involvement

and serves as the Chaplain for the Rowlett Citizens Corps Council, for the Rowlett Fire Corps, and for the Rowlett Citizens Emergency Response Team. She serves on the board of Operation Community Outreach, the Dorsey Elementary School Site Based Decision Team, 

is an alumnus of the Leadership Rowlett

program, and participates in the Rowlett Chamber of Commerce.


Dretha has two adult married daughters Sherry Roeder (Nick) and Andrea Boyce (Shane). Dretha loves First Rowlett and is happy to be able to worship and work along side of such wonderful people.
